A Tale of Two Tipsters

Here’s a simple look at the results for 2 Profitable Tipsters. How and when they make their profits may make subscribers have a quite different view of the service. Both tipsters are on the Tipstrr platform

Tipster 1 – Timing is Everything

Tipster 1 performance chart
12 months profit of c.1,485 at 5 pt bets (+297 level stakes profit)

Tipster 1 has made around 1,485 points over 12 months (297 level stakes profit ‘LSP’). If you’d been a subscriber and achieved that return I’m sure you’ll be very pleased.

With no sport during May 2020 you’ve effectively achieved those returns over 11 months. So that’s around 27 level stakes points per month on average, a very good return

BUT what if you joined at the end of August 20 having seen how good the profits were for June, July & August?

Well, you’ll still have made 550 points (110 LSP) over the next 7/8 months. A more modest 14 LSP per month.

That’s still a good return but nearly half the average achieved over the full 11 months.

Look at the graph/table and you’ll see the returns flattened between Sept 20 and Feb 21. The total return to 5pt bets was around 150 points or 30 LSP over the 7 months.

Now your LSP return over those months was an average of just 4 points.

If you’d kept going with the service then you would have been rewarded with a cracking profit of 347 points (70 LSP) in March. However, I bet there were plenty of subscribers who bailed out before March.

“Past performance is no guarantee of future results” as they say. This is never truer than when reviewing a tipster service’s results. You need to get a feel for the ride you might be about to sign up for.

I’m sure you’ll know that the rollercoaster ride with the biggest ups and downs isn’t the most comfortable one. Even if the end result is good profits.

Taking a portfolio approach to your services can help smooth out the inevitable ups and downs. Perhaps a mix of slow and steady services and maybe one or 2 ‘rollercoaster’ rides. Only you will know what will work for you.

Let’s take a look at another service on Tipstrr with what at first glance appear to be similar results to Tipster 1….

Tipster 2 – Steady as You Go

Tipster 2 performance chart

12 months profit of c.1,720 at 5 pt bets (+344 level stakes profit)

Tipster 2 has made around 1,720 points over 12 months (344 level stakes profit ‘LSP’). As with Tipster 1 a very good and similar return.

If you’d been a subscriber and achieved that return I’m sure you’d be very pleased. Again, no sport during May 2020. Over 11 months that’s around 29 level stakes points per month on average.

Tipster 2 also had a good profitable month during August. Therefore you might well have subscribed at the beginning of September.

If so, you would have had 2 initial losing months (-1 LSP in Sept and -25 LSP in October). Profit then appears in November and continues through December and onwards.

The Sept 20 to Feb 21 returns were 560 pts (112 LSP). That’s an average monthly return of 19 LSP compared to Tipster 1’s 4 LSP per month average.

Had you decided to quit the service after October then you probably shouldn’t be using a tipster service. You need to be able to accept losing months even when a tipster has a long term profitable results curve. Assuming you did continue with the service then the return from November onwards is over 940 pts or 188 LSP.

Summary

Isn’t hindsight great? There’s a key point to take away from these 2 examples. If you decide to join a service you should do so based on the understanding that there is a strong chance the previous results won’t continue. However, if the service is solid you stand a good chance of making long term profit. Even so, you will need to be prepared to ride out the inevitable losses.

Please bear in mind, the 2 examples here still need to pass all your other tests as set out in the Tipster Evaluation page
