This list of Matched Betting Dos and Don’ts isn’t exhaustive. It will hopefully help you with your Account Management, keep your Bookie accounts healthy and make good profits from Matched Betting.
DO

- Make sure you understand principles of MB before you start and go slowly at first
- Carefully read the Terms & Conditions (T&Cs) of every Free Bet
- Know how much time you can devote to MB particularly on Saturdays when more offers are available
- Ensure you have a reasonable bank available (£200-300+)unless you are happy to build your profits slowly.
- Consider setting up a new email account to use just for Matched Betting. Name it something ‘normal’, not ‘[email protected]’
- Deposit more than the minimum required when taking up New Customer Offers. Depositing the exact amount needed is a red flag for Bookies
- Consider setting up a separate bank account which you fund initially and use solely for your Matched Betting
- Deposit into Bookie accounts using a Debit Card. Check the T&C. Offers may exclude deposits made using money transfer services etc or they may apply further restrictions
- Consider signing up to a Matched Betting Service if you intend investing a reasonable amount of time. The cost of a subscription will pay for itself quickly. That’s both in terms of additional profits you’ll make and the time saved in doing it
- Check your Bets have all been placed (and Exchange lays fully matched)
- Use a good Free Bet Calculator like the Smarkets free one. All Matched Betting Services will have a range of Free Bet calculators. The Smarkets free calculator will be absolutely fine when you start.
- Keep an eye out for Commission Offers on the Betting Exchanges. For example, BETDAQ are currently offering 0% Commission every Saturday on ALL sports. Commission payments can eat into your Profit. It’s as important to secure the lowest commission rates as it is to get the best odds
- Start placing Mug Bets as soon as you have opened a new Bookie account (the Early Days are Key!)
- When placing Mug Bets stick to mainstream sports / events like horse racing and major football leagues. Backing under 3.5 goals in an Icelandic Women’s football match is not the action of a Mug Punter
- Place bet stakes in round numbers. Bookies hate Arbers and if they see a bet for £12.63 they might Red Flag you
- Place some bets for more than the minimum when using Free Bets. Make it seem like you fancy a punt on a result and are just using the Free Bet towards your stake
- Use your mobile phone to place some Bookie bets. Classic casual bettor thing to do..
- Leave some Free Bets Offers – hoovering up every Bookie Offer will help mark you out as a Matched Bettor
- Track every bet you place and the Profits you’re making
- Track the amount of time you spend on Matched Betting. Be self-aware and ensure you are spending an APPROPRIATE amount of time Matched Betting
- Wait for Bookies to add Free Bets to your account. Chasing a Bookie to ask where your Free Bets are is not the mark of a Mug Punter..
- Before getting involved, make sure you FULLY understand Casino/Bingo Offers. You can make good profits from them but you MUST ensure you know what you’re doing. If in doubt leave them alone or sign up to a Matched Betting Service
- Set realistic Profit goals and limit the team spent achieving them
- Look after your Bookie Accounts and keep them healthy with Mug Bets and not taking every offer available
DON’T

- Make sure you don’t withdraw cash from your bookie funds too often. A Mug Punter won’t be moving money in and out of their bookie accounts all the time….
- Don’t back horses the night before a race unless it’s a big televised race. The odd bet the night before might be ok but doing this too often will flag you to the bookie as a smart punter looking for early value
- Limit regularly picking off the best price arbs from Odds Matching Software. It will affect the chance of your account being Gubbed
- Don’t take every Free Bet offer
- Backing the Draw is ok but don’t do it too often. Mug Punters think they know the winner of a match, not which matches will be Draws
- Don’t regularly back on events in unusual leagues, particularly using a Free Bet
- Understand that Matched Betting won’t make you rich but treat it as a means of creating a side income
- Big Red Flag HERE! Don’t open multiple bookie accounts for all members of your family & friends. Bookies will soon notice if you run them all yourself from the same IP Address!
- If a Free Bet Credit is due, don’t chase the bookie if it doesn’t appear in your account straightaway
- There’s no need to download all Bookie Mobile Apps. Allegedly they can be used to snoop on your activities and help bookies identify Matched Bettors BUT
- Don’t forget to bet on your mobile
- Don’t start any Free Bet offer without ensuring you fully understand the T&Cs (especially Casino, Bingo, Slots)
- Do Not bet when drunk, stoned, upset, very tired, driving, cycling, water skiing etc
- Don’t expect to be able to be ‘Ungubbed’
- Please don’t “Bite the hand that feeds you”. If you are making good profits from a Bookie’s Free Bet offers then you need to keep that account. Don’t forget your Mug Bets, don’t take every offer etc.
Follow the above list of Matched Betting Do’s and Don’ts and hopefully you’ll keep your accounts open and Profits coming. If you have any suggestions then please get in Contact with Profit from Sports
