What Is Profit From Sports Betting?
Hi, my name is Kevin. I’ve been fascinated by betting since my Dad said I could have a 10p bet on the Grand National (I think it was 1977). I selected Red Rum at 10/1.
How different my life might have been if Red Rum hadn’t won… I wouldn’t have had the broad beam as I pocketed the crinkled £1 note my Dad gave me. Knowing him he’d have had quite a few more notes in his pocket. I only really followed him with Red Rum and I doubt he just put 10p on….
In the 40+ years since then, betting in many guises has been a constant in my life. I’m lucky, it hasn’t caused me any financial problems (quite the contrary) and I’ve had a successful career. Betting’s been a passion but hasn’t stopped me having other interests or devoting time to my family. However, I can see how at times that balance could easily have tipped. I MUST stress that I am not saying this website is your path to riches.
Others at my age might decide to write that novel they’ve always threatened. I’m not that creative so this website is my equivalent. I guess my love of statistics makes it pretty obvious I’m not going to be the next Booker Prize Winner…….
My intention for Profit From Sports is to share what I’ve learned over the years. To suggest some ways you can make money, help you make more informed decisions and maybe prevent you making some of the mistakes I have.
Please please please be GambleAware

The betting landscape has changed massively over the years and continues to do so. I guess the one constant is that the Bookies continue to make good profits. That tells us that in order to beat the bookies you need to have a consistent edge. There are many ways to do so but if you are able to consistently get an edge there is one undeniable truth. At some point any bookie you’re making a profit from will most likely just close your account. Before that they may reduce your stakes to a level where you might as well not bother.
So that’s it then is it? Doesn’t seem to be much point in reading any further……
Yes there is! There are many ways to make a profit and keep your edge. Sensible account management will help you retain your accounts with the traditional Bookies. Alternatively, Sports Trading can let you make money at other sites like Betting Exchanges.
What Might You Learn?
Please use the information at ‘Profit From Sports’ to help you Make Extra Money and learn about:-
- The Basics of Betting including terminology, bet types etc.
- Bookies, what to look for when thinking about setting up an account. What are their offers for New and Existing customers? How you profit from them (you’ve probably already heard of Matched Betting)
- Tipsters. Social media has meant that there are now thousands of tipsters vying for a piece of the pie. Most of them aren’t doing much more than using a pin to make their selections. They are purely using the platforms available to them to make money. They make money from unsuspecting punters who are tempted by the ‘results’ they claim. That money is via a kick-back as they push their subscribers to use ‘partner’ bookmakers. I don’t have a magic wand but I will share how I evaluate tipsters. I also share some of the tipsters I believe a worth closer attention. There are plenty of honest & reputable tipsters that show a regular profit from their tips. Very very few will be found on Social Media. See the ‘Recommended Tipsters‘ page for more details
- Betting Exchanges & Exchange Trading. Lots of people are making money from trading on the Betting Exchanges. Successful trades mean they are guaranteed a profit regardless of the result of the match, race, fight, election etc. In most cases they’ve made their money before the event has even started and have absolutely no interest in who wins. Trading might sound complicated but I’ve a great example trade on the 2020/21 Premier League Football Season. It shows how you can make big profits with a little lateral thinking
- Betting systems. I’m fascinated by sports betting systems. I love to review systems that are being touted as the next big thing and try to pull them apart. That doesn’t mean that you can’t make money from following a system but there must be logic behind it. Would you ever see someone promoting a system like:- “Back every 2nd Favourite in horse races at Ascot on a Saturday when the Horse’s name starts with A, the Jockey’s surname starts with the letter W and the Jockey’s cap has Red on it”? I doubt it – you’d have to ask what the logic is that for that to be a successful long-term system! Maybe an extreme example but hopefully you get the ‘logic’ bit…
- Saving Money. Nothing to do with betting but I’ve recently become a bit smarter at managing how much of my money goes out the door. I’ve saved a decent amount of cash by managing things like household bills, insurance costs, using cashback sites etc. If you’re maybe building up a reserve of cash to use for your betting or trading, why not combine the 2?
